SLAVE CEMETERIES

Slave burial locations are hard to find because most are not marked. If you know of any location of slave cemeteries in Harris County, I would be happy to add them to this site. Here are some locations of a handful of slave cemeteries in Harris County.

FROSTTOWN CEMETERY Race & Rains St. downtown Houston. Johnathan Frost owned slaves and most likely they were buried at this site. Cemetery "vanished" or lost.

MASSIE CEMETERY Near Penn City Road, off Hayden Road, Channelview,Texas. Old Massie Plantation, north side of Houston Ship Channel. Located on a bluff overlooking Buffalo Bayou. Dr. J. Cam Massie, a mason, had 23 slaves in 1860. Most likely slaves were buried on site.

OAKLAND PLANTATION Baytown,Texas Home of David and Hannah Burnet. The Burnet bible list the names of several slaves buried there. (From At Rest by Trevia W. Beverly/92)
